Deconstructing Genoa City

Let Me Put It Like This: I WOULD MAKE A BETTER MALCOLM!

Let’s start in the HIMBO! mailbag, where many have written to denounce the new Malcolm.  “Wanda” says: “I demand to know who’s in charge of casting for Y&R.   The new Malcolm looks (and acts) like a gorilla*. And don’t get me started on Daisy. *PS – Please don’t put use my real name in your blog or TV/radio show, due to possible racist interpretation.”

No problem, Wanda, and I couldn’t agree more, neither could the reader who wrote of “Nu Malcolm”: “Ugh. Make. It. End.”  Indeed.

Here’s what else is up and down in the ups and downs of Y&R of late:

Best Scene: Smiling Jack is moving faster than a lesbian right now, proposing to Emily so quickly, but trust our beloved Stacy Haiduk to make Emily’s emotional ‘yes, for once in my life I’m going to jump in head first’ response so friggen moving that we forget they’ve only known each other a few weeks and that their whole relationship is actually quite creepy.*

Best Actor: In the words of my friend Phillip, who is fluent in Y&R, Michelle Stafford is wasted having to play Phyllis with the woodpile that is Nick. But MAN does she ever do Woman On The Verge to a tee. (And we know all about being a Woman On The Verge.) Gold star!

Stop It: Whoever in CBS makeup is putting such massive drag queen size false eye lashes on the women on Genoa City needs to Quit It. Use smaller ones, and use ones that fit. Stafford’s were too small in her scenes with Nick, and really, does she have to have them if she’s doing a just-woke-up scene in a bathrobe? She’s not Lauren.

BIG Kudos: The New Year’s Eve episode was outstanding, especially because it centered on Billy, and the flash-forwards to what everyone would look like in many years to come was fun (with one exception, below).  You could tell a lot of work went into it, and extra points the way everything was saturated with colour for special effect.

Extra Love: If this is what Ashley is supposed to look like, hurry it up (and tee-hee that poor old Tracy only gets bookish glasses):

P.S. Notice No Drag Queen Eyes On Ash And Yet We All Survived?

No Love: We know Jill Foster Abbott VERY WELL thankyouverymuch and can assure everyone at Y&R that she would never let herself go to the point of looking like a madwoman as she did in the NYE flashforward:

Fun Game! Count How Many Things Are Wrong With Jill's Look!

Want One! The aforementioned NYE episode featured a Genoa City SNOWGLOBE!  Aaaack! Where? Do? We? Get? One?

Aaack!

Tune into my show tomorrow, when Christine Fix from Soaps.com joins us for our weekly spoilers of what’s ahead!

* And The Last Word goes to … Paul Williams! “Don’t you think there’s something wrong Jack, being engaged to a woman with the same face as my sister?”

I think the new Malcolm is trying too hard. He could have hit the gym as well Shaun but the hotness aside I am not a big Malcolm fan and never was, its up to the actor to embody the part and I’m sorry to say he has not lived up to it yet.
