Feel GOOD Friday!
Sep 3rd, 2010 by Shaun Proulx

St. Marc Spa Is A Bathhouse In Toronto. This Clever Poster Campaign Always Gives Me A Laugh When I See It.

Well well well, it’s that time of week again.  Here’s what I’m loving on this Happy Friday:

:) A LONG WEEKEND! Enjoy, enjoy!

:) I’m walking in this year’s AIDS Walk September 19th, raising money for AIDS service organizations everywhere, including ACT, the AIDS Committee of Toronto. Please sponsor me – any amount helps! Thank you in advance :)

:) This time of year brings the Toronto International Film Festival.  Besides the buzz over films and stars, it’s vastly entertaining observe just how far people will go to elbow-in on the fame game.  This morning I got a gushy press release about a security company that works the fest.  That’s right, folks, security guards are the new celebrities – or at least wannabe.  Chuckle on …

:) Falling a little more in love with a certain red-headed Cocker Spaniel named Ella every day.  Girl, you know it’s true.

:) A new fall do.  John Taccone of Navigate Space has been eyeballed by Madonna for her locks, so you know that makes it good enough for Proulx here.  His hair blog is Get More Gorgeous, so … hello? Thanks Mr. T. for the great cut this week and a new look for fall.  Sometimes one change = big lift!

:) Law Of Attraction: Here in Toronto, the race for Mayor is on, voting is next month.  George Smitherman, who could make history by becoming the city’s first gay Mayor, has surprised many by continually being beaten in polls by an opponent named Rob Ford.  Ford is a colourful candidate to say the least, with an impressive track record of public statements and policies that leave many aghast.  So much so, that Smitherman’s camp retaliated by publishing a website that collects Ford-isms, the purpose obviously to tip the voter scales in Smitherman’s favour by letting Ford-speak spook Torontonians. Tremendous amount of media attention has also been given to Ford and the “dire straights” Toronto would be in under his reign.

It ain’t working. Ford remains in the lead.

I’ve known George since we were young men.  I’m so proud of his success in politics, particularly as a gay man (he resigned from a rank as high as Deputy Premier of the Province of Ontario to run for Toronto Mayor), and I know he’d be an excellent and well-intended mayor for Toronto.  Here’s the Law of Attraction take on things I posted on my Facebook this week:

Whoever does not want RF to be Toronto’s next mayor needs to stop focusing on RF and what he says and does and how awful he appears to be. ASAP.

Stop visiting RF websites, reading horrific articles about him, Facebooking and tweeting and blogging about him – the works.  Focus deliberately on George Smitherman, focus on the many positive aspects of his astounding political career thus far as evidence of how he has everything he needs to lead our city. Don’t compare him to you-know-who anymore, instead tell great Smitherman stories over the coming weeks to yourself, on Facebook and anywhere else you choose.

Any focus on anything else will only bring us all what we don’t want from the sheer force of all of us thinking, worrying, complaining, fearing and loathing  it.

What you focus on expands – whether it’s something you want, or don’t want.

Congratulations in advance, Mr. Smitherman.

Have a wonderful Labour Day weekend!  HIMBO! returns Tuesday!

Homophobia and the Law Of Attraction
Sep 2nd, 2010 by Shaun Proulx

In conversation this week, I was reminded about an incident that happened to me this past winter outside Jarvis Collegiate, a school close to where I live.  Walking by during a lunch hour where the streets and school property were filled with students, I heard one call out loudly: “Faggot!”

I kept walking, and heard “Faggot!” called a couple more times.

Then a piece of wood went flying past my head.  A piece of broken tree branch, about a foot long.  Not a twig, a branch.

To cut the story short, I chose to keep walking.  But I also chose to share what had happened to me on my former radio show that afternoon, as example of how homophobia exists even in cities often praised for their “tolerance” like Toronto. It created some great dialogue, and I felt I’d turned something negative into a positive.

But something kept nagging me.  Here’s my commentary from the day that followed: Read the rest of this entry »

I'd Drink That!

So you can imagine my surprise when I reached into our bar the other day, pulled out a bottle of Malibu (right?) and saw mah face in caricature drawn on the side. Well, HELLO! *

And next to me on that booze bottle is none other than my radio partner-in-crime, Kitten Mark Wigmore:

Kitty-Kitty!

His hair could have been a lot wilder, but anyway, I don’t recall ever receiving this Malibu-as-art, and while you’d think I’d have noticed, probably I was just overwhelmed the way I do tend to be when free booze flows.  Here’s what else I’m loving as we travel along another fine Friday!

:) My ability to bounce back fast.

:) Law of Attraction 101 coming your way October 16 here in Toronto.  What I’ve learned that’s changed my life, practical processes that have helped me, and Q&A time.  More details to come!

:) * Whatever comes out of Deven Green’s mouth.  “I read porn to the blind“? Seriously?  HA!

:) And I know I told you this last week, but I don’t think you heard me: KELIS’ Fleshtone is joyful strut-down-the-runway-while-no- one-is-looking disco. I’m horse-walking to it as you read this! Pour some in your ears!

:) Law of Attraction: If you desire something it won’t make it to you if you have resistance on that subject.  You create your own walls with your own thinking, ie: making big fat deals over the very subject you want an improved version of.  One way of releasing resistance is … surprise … to be able to laugh about it.  Jack, our 10-year-old long-haired Dachshund, in his on-going quest to dominate our entire family, has taken to pulling-pulling-pulling from behind when we’re out walking him.  It started when we got Ella two years ago.  He’s decided he’ll show US who’s in charge when we’re walking by pulling back – literally digging his heels in even so you have to DRAG him, thereby controlling the walk.  It’s really fun.  Seriously, it’s infuriating to both Eddie and I to the point where we don’t even enjoy taking him out and I fantasize about throwing him like a football into traffic when he does it.

Until, that is, Eddie recently announced while we were out on a walk with the dogs and IT was happening AGAIN: “This is like dragging a dead baby around.”

Well.  Slap my ass and call me Sally, the image this conjured as we walked the downtown core hand-in-hand (dragging a dead baby?) nearly had me fall over laughing.  Now that’s our go-to when Jack pulls back, and it has totally melted the resistance (anger, impatience, frustration) I had over this.  The only catch?  Now Jack barely pulls.  Which is kind of a drag, because those were healthy belly-laughs I was having on crowded streets; I’ll miss them.

When you know what you don’t want, you know what you do want.   Sometimes having a good laugh about the fucker that caused you to know what you want is all it takes to get it.

Spotted On A Dog Walk: I Wonder What This Was All For?

Yippie-Ky!  Did this week fly, or what?  Here’s the Love List on this summer Friday morning – have a great weekend!

:) Far be it for me to be nepotistic, but my fiancee Eddie posted such a funny on his porn blog this week I thought I’d share.  (Repeat: porn blog, so if you don’t dig gay guys naked, don’t visit, just trust me it was funny.)

:) Kelis. Fleshtone.  Euro future disco with a Donna Summer twist – the whole album puts you at 2pm in your favourite club when it’s all kicked in and all you want to do is move.  Friggen amazing release.

:) Head Case Season 2I mentioned way back how much I loved Oprah’s pal Alexandra Wentworth as the narcissistic $750/hr celebrity shrink in a show where celebs guest, playing themselves.  Season 2 is now out on DVD and in most episodes I’m laughing from beginning to end.  The first episode with Macy Gray in love with Barrack Obama is hilare.

:) In her awesome blog, White Hot Truth, Vancouver’s Danielle LaPorte handed out Permission Slips to all of us to live our lives the way we want to.  I especially love the final permission, and you’ll never guess who supplied it ;)

:) Law Of Attraction.  Speaking of Danielle, ages ago she wrote wisdom about Lady Gaga’s swift rise and the idea of believing how rapidly your own personal success can rush into your life.  That post stuck with me, left me, but stuck with me mostly.  These days it’s been on my mind a lot, relating to one of the common obstacles in utilizing LoA, that people look at what they desire, noting that it hasn’t yet arrived, which then only  holds the desire away (the awareness it’s not here yet).

Recently I flipped through the Vanity Fair with Lady Gaga as its cover.  The photography was stunning; Gaga has risen even further since LaPorte’s post.  And then yesterday I was hit by a realization.  If Gaga had desired what she has achieved, she not only had to KNOW it was coming, but she MUST have felt ALSO a huge amount of exhileration in the anticipation of it all, from sold out concerts, to Vanity Fair covers. Which is a far closer vibrational match to what is is she wanted.  There’s knowing, then there’s knowing and being in joy from the knowing.  She must have reached that, to have all her success so fast.

The point is, LoA teachings talk about knowing (believing, trusting), and I feel I have that down pat.  But what about the next level, the deep understanding that if you KNOW something is coming your way, truly believe it, trust it, then it only follows that you HAVE to be INCREDIBLY EXCITED that it’s coming.  Right?  If I told you I was giving you $1 million next Friday, and you believed and trusted that, you’d spend the next seven days flipping out, talking about it, planning on spending it, telling people.  You’d be ecstatic, joyful, ALIVE.

And so yesterday, my head swirling from getting it as I wrote in my daily journal, my writings took on a new life. I didn’t write from a place of simply knowing, I wrote from knowing and from ELATION and THRILL at what’s on its way to me.  And I’ve been milking those feelings every chance I get, to achieve true alignment with what it is I desire.  I’m 100% positive Lady Gaga works in that same energy.  It’s not vibrationally possible for her to have achieved what she has so rapidly – from the release of her first EP and when I was one of the first to interview her, to where she’s at now – without being in that kind of alignment.

:) I know the gays are livid with Walmart (understandably) right now, but it was still fun this week to see my nephew in their back-to-school flyer.  He’s on the left, said the proud uncle:

And The Last Word goes to … Abraham! ‘The only reason it is not coming to you is because of the vibrational contradictions located within you.  It has not got anything to do with whether you work or don’t work.  It’s all about the story you are telling and the way you feel when you tell it.”

Who's That Girl?

Got. Great. News. Yesterday. Not. Allowed. To. Tell. Yet. Bursting.

But here’s what else I’m loving heading into the weekend!

:) Cool women like my friend Kristen. That’s her, above, looking so sexy swinging on a swing that I feel straight suddenly. Her self-deprecating wit can be found on her blog, Shambled Ramblings.

:) Robyn’s latest fun electro-pop release, Body Talk. More summer aural awesome.

:) Sergio, for spending 45 minutes on the phone with me deciphering contract jargon that was making my head hurt.

:) Law Of Attraction: Yesterday I was catching up with my friend Jim Halterman from LA. It had been just a few weeks since we spoke, and in that conversation we shared fairly large career desires. But when he asked ‘what’s new?’ yesterday, I shared a few developments and realized in the sharing that my latest news was all related to what we’d spoken about only weeks back. My ideas shared with Jim in that first conversation are already becoming reality; Law of Attraction gains stronger momentum the more you practice it deliberately.

:) Eddie’s new sexy porn bedtime stories, on Twitter (for those of you 18+).

:) The Kids Are Alright. Loved this lesbian mum movie! Annette Bening and Julianne Moore are wonderful as long time companions and Mark Ruffalo is surprisingly good and sexy as their sperm donor they wish they’d never met. Laugh and cry.

:) My pal who has been off drugs for two years but needs to keep very bizzy. Yesterday he presented me with a gorgeous huge purple wool scarf he knitted himself.

:) And finally, my new movie: Drink, Swear, Hate is in theaters now!

Have a wonderful weekend!

I Love The Way You Love Me!

Back from just the most remarkable week in Vancouver, a city I fell in love with.  A great balance of shooting Pride Vancouver 2010, shooting the show (great chats with Cris Derksen, Darcy Michael, Candis Cayne, and Bif Naked!), seeing the city, plus a day trip to Victoria to visit Andrea, my high school pal. Reunited and it feels so good!  Here’s what else I’m loving as we move into another summer weekend:

:) Prop 8 overturned – it puts same-sex marriage up in the air in California again, which is a big step forward from flat-on-it’s-back-over.  Love is love, and that can never be trumped.

:) Maura West is joining Y&R as the new – and third – Diane Jenkins.  I really liked the former actor to play her, Susan Walters, who sizzled opposite arch-enemy Phyllis – but West is AMAZING.  She is on the soon-to-be-kaput As The World Turns and even though I don’t watch that soap, at my old gym they would have it on the TVs and I’d do my workout with an eye on her scenes ’cause she’s that compelling.  More info! (Speaking of Phyllis, will we see any catfights with her other arch-enemy Skeletor Cricket, now that ‘the bug’ is back?) Lastly, while fans are divided regarding Victoria Rowell’s approach to her issues with Y&R on her Twitter, I get her, and I’d love to see her back doing Dru.

:) I journal daily.  I call it my Love List.  It’s an appreciation, one page, of my life as it is, mixed with some forward-feeling of the way I desire it to be.  One page, no audience in mind, and I never re-read it.  Something I almost always write is: “Opportunity is attracted to me like I am the world’s strongest magnet”.  It works, and works often: First text received upon landing back in Toronto was a work opportunity for my consideration – and a mighty fine one at that.

:) Law Of Attraction: Eddie likes to get his hair cut whenever he visits a city, and Vancouver was no exception this past week.  The question remained though: Where to go that gave good lid?  That question put out there, we could only look at each other and laugh when, during the Vancouver Pride Parade two days later, this uber-hot goth chick leaves the parade route, bee-lines it straight to Eddie, and gives him a little pin with the words ‘Chop Shop‘ on it.  And he took it – he never takes promo shit people hand out!  Two days later, one fun cut, just what he wanted, inspired by the World Cup sexy hair that was everywhere.  Ask, and it is given.  And it’s the small stuff that’s easiest to notice, which allows you to then notice the big stuff.

:) Vancouver Pride.  Such a blast, an amazing Parade, and to see the community gather by English Bay surrounded by Vancouver gorgeousness was a queer celebration like I’ve never seen.  Here’s a peak of what’s ahead on our Summer Of Pride special on OUTtv:
