Feel GOOD Friday!
Mar 12th, 2010 by Shaun Proulx

Five Fierce Bitches. Wigmore, me, and the gorgeous hell-raisers known as Hunter Valentine. They came by this week to celebrate Canadian Music Week, and their upcoming album, Lessons From The Late Night. (Photo: Nathan Webster)

And here we go into another weekend. Here’s what I’m loving!

I. Am. Loving. This. Spring. Thing.

Getting to speak at York University this Monday on  The Importance of Queer Visibility.

The way a good mani-pedi can make a gal feel :)

The amazing people I continue to meet and chat with thanks to this big bad thing we call Social Media.

South Florida and Las Vegas on the horizon!

Gemini, anyone? ;)

Just announced for Toronto Pride 2010: Cyndi Lauper headlines a free concert in Queen’s Park Pride Saturday.  30,000 lovers of life packed into the tree-filled park surrounded by our majestic parliament buildings will be truly True Colours.  Beautiful.

Law Of Attraction. Throughout this week there has been some good shit going on, for me and those around me.  I noticed that my Assistant Richard has a habit of saying, “I can’t believe it!”, which is often an enthusiastic sentiment I have when things go right.  You know what?  With Law of Attraction, all things go right.  So stop “I can’t believe it” and BELIEVE IT.  Get it?

Kelly Cutrone joins us on the show Monday!

Bon weekend!

The View From A Window At Lola's Commissary, One Of My Favourite Toronto / Gaybourhood Restaurants. We Just Booked The Space For Our 2010 Pride Party This Morning. You've Got To Love Two Lesbians Who Insist Their Alley Wall Is Decorated!

Happy Canadian Music Week!  Who is your favourite Canadian artist / band?  So many to name: Esthero, Ivana Santilli, Jody Quine from Balligomingo, Molly Johnson, Jully Black, Divine Brown, Deborah Cox (I do favour the ladies), Sherri St. Germain, Mistress Barbara – and the beat goes on.

Patrick came home with a gay Dutch magazine yesterday, who did a two page article about his two lives as Patrick Marano / Eddie Stone.  As it is written in Dutch, we have no idea what it says, but along with his names, we recognized: “Tyra Banks“, “Shaun Proulx” and “power bottom”.  Read the rest of this entry »

World Exclusive Premiere!

My dear friend Brian Finch, who writes the marvy ‘Acid Reflux‘ on GayGuideToronto.com dreams big.  He’s after a free copy of Kathy Griffin’s new DVD, ‘She’ll Cut A Bitch’, and even spent all day many days, actually making the mandatory video Ms. Griffin requires before sending out a $5 DVD which is fairly demanding of her just for a damn DVD, but I digress.  I’m happy to play a part: The Cherry on this video sundae Brian is offering her.  Fingers crossed!  Warning: Nudity.

HIMBO! Confidential: Outspoken
Feb 2nd, 2010 by Shaun Proulx

As I have mentioned before, I just love my pal, the writer, journalist and weekly guest on my show, Susan G. Cole.

So it was my pleasure to attend part of the launch party last night for a new anthology she has edited called Outspoken.  It’s available now at better bookstores (ISBN 978-0-88754-799-7 $19.95.)  Susan has culled from different lesbian writers across Canada to put together a great book of scenes and short stories and monologues.  Last night at the party, I got to hear many of the women involved read from their work, including the amazing Mariko Tamaki.  What a great range of stories.  From completely engaging to completely LOL, from crushing on a teacher to shaving your legs, Outspoken is full of amazing tales for anyone who loves great writing and great women.

meaning-of-matthew.s600x600

Today on the show in honour of Matthew Shepard’s mother Judy joining us in less than an hour, we are asking you where it is you see homophobia the most.  In case you don’t know, Matthew was brutally murdered in Laramie, Wyoming just over ten years ago at age 21, a homophobic act that is still as appalling to me today as it was the first time I heard about it. Tomorrow is the radio air date of yesterday’s chat with Adam Lambert (our interview got a mention in today’s National Post), and the TV date for our chat will be sometime in April, when the next batch of shows hit OutTV.

Let’s talk Tyra.

I guess when she started her talk show and said she was the Oprah for the next generation, she meant it.  Following in Oprah’s footsteps, the former model recently announced she, too, is quitting her talk show.

It’s probably a good thing she didn’t last as long as Oprah, if what I witnessed over last month’s holidays is any indication.  Can you imagine the horror on my face when I turned on the boob tube Read the rest of this entry »

The 4:20 – Get Over It

My daily commentary The 4:20 apparently upset a few people listening to yesterday’s show.  One woman phoned the studio and said I needed to be “reigned in”.  Ironic, considering the theme yesterday was political correctness.  So I should be “reigned in” because someone doesn’t like what I think?  Got it.  Several other people said they wished they’d heard it; here’s a transcript: Read the rest of this entry »

Let Me Put It Like This: I WOULD MAKE A BETTER MALCOLM!

Let’s start in the HIMBO! mailbag, where many have written to denounce the new Malcolm.  “Wanda” says: “I demand to know who’s in charge of casting for Y&R.   The new Malcolm looks (and acts) like a gorilla*. And don’t get me started on Daisy. *PS – Please don’t put use my real name in your blog or TV/radio show, due to possible racist interpretation.”

No problem, Wanda, and I couldn’t agree more, neither could the reader who wrote of “Nu Malcolm”: “Ugh. Make. It. End.”  Indeed.

Sherri Shepherd’s stylist hates her!

P.S.  Two of my favourite GayGuideToronto.com bloggers – Maha and Andrew Vail – join us on the show today to face off on the topic of aging.  Andrew’s approaching the glorious 50 and Maha is 30-something in person, 19 on Facebook.  It’s all inspired by Andrew’s reaction to Pride Toronto’s recent announcement that this year during Toronto Pride that they will have a 40+ initiative, featuring  a dedicated website, plus activities where older participants can share their stories about what Pride (and life) was like back when. You can read his take here, listen to the show online here, and take part in today’s Shaun Proulx Show Poll Of The Day (on … surprise! AGING!) here.

Go Ahead, Make My Day!

What a great thing to wake up to this morning – a note from Kevin Borden from The Toronto People With AIDS Foundation (PWA), notifying me that this year’s PROUD FM Joy Drive (which benefited the PWA) raised over 1.5 tons of food for local clients living with HIV/AIDS in need of assistance.  Thank you to everyone who supported this initiative, from the starting kick-off to last pick up!

Feel GOOD Friday! Absinthe Without A Trace.
Dec 4th, 2009 by Shaun Proulx

God I loved the madcap Friday night in London several years back with my cousins Edward and Shez.  I think there was food, for sure Ed did the traditional sugar cube bit with some absinthe and then, floating, we made our way into the back of one of their glorious huge black cabs, heading to central London for Friday night fun.  Vibrating, buzzing, and Shez falling from one end of the cab to the other, cue hysterical laughter; memory ends there.

So it was really amazing to welcome the bohemian style Hill’s Absinthe Read the rest of this entry »
