Bits N Bites!
Mar 10th, 2010 by Shaun Proulx

The View From A Window At Lola's Commissary, One Of My Favourite Toronto / Gaybourhood Restaurants. We Just Booked The Space For Our 2010 Pride Party This Morning. You've Got To Love Two Lesbians Who Insist Their Alley Wall Is Decorated!

Happy Canadian Music Week!  Who is your favourite Canadian artist / band?  So many to name: Esthero, Ivana Santilli, Jody Quine from Balligomingo, Molly Johnson, Jully Black, Divine Brown, Deborah Cox (I do favour the ladies), Sherri St. Germain, Mistress Barbara – and the beat goes on.

Patrick came home with a gay Dutch magazine yesterday, who did a two page article about his two lives as Patrick Marano / Eddie Stone.  As it is written in Dutch, we have no idea what it says, but along with his names, we recognized: “Tyra Banks“, “Shaun Proulx” and “power bottom”.  Perhaps best leave it at that.

Oy. I wrenched my back and so was off work yesterday as it hurt to sit.  How awful, to spend the day popping pills and lying in bed with the dogs, semi-comatose, slurring and drinking martinis.  This morning it felt a lot better, and it was off to the chiropractor for another adjustment.  As he was doing just that, I heard music wafting from his reception.  “Is that really Barbra Streisand?” I asked him, face down on his adjustment table, knowing it was indeed Babs.  Crack!  “Yes,” he replied. “Does that make me the gayest chiropractor in town?”

It does.

Some show news: Monday Kelly Cutrone, of “Kell On Earth” “The Hills” and If You Have To Cry, Go Outside fame is in town and coming on the show.  My Mentor Nate and my Assistant Richard are in love with her, and because Nate sent her a video last month saying as much and asking her onto the show, Cutrone has asked Nate to be her date at an MTV function that night.  Life is good!  Speaking of Monday, that morning I will be speaking at York University on the importance of queer visibility.  So honoured to be invited, and excited to speak!

Lastly: Y&R.  Are you watching?  It’s INSANE right now. So good.  I do need to do a Deconstructing Genoa City soon, but usually after each episode I’m shaking too badly from the excitement of it all to type properly.  Happy Hump Day!

She Told JT She Was In DUBAI! (Thanks to Susan F. for spotting this and thinking I would get a kick. Did!)

Hey everyone, and happy Friday!  Heading into a Toronto weekend where the weather will be more like mid-April than early-March, there’s lots to love:

Ooops! Law Of Attraction + Shortage Consciousness
Feb 16th, 2010 by Shaun Proulx

I got a bunch of emails after my regular Feel GOOD Friday! post last week pointing out I had omitted my normal weekly Law Of Attraction mention.

So, if I look back at last week to identify what aspect of the Law Of Attraction was dominant, I have to say it was Read the rest of this entry »

Out On The Streets.
Feb 8th, 2010 by Shaun Proulx

Yorkville Park

What an easy-breezy winter we’re having!  And yes, I AM beating that drum again!  We’re almost mid-February (have you entered our draw for gorgeous Jackie O Valentine’s flowers yet?), there has been little winter wrath, and once we hit March, for me, anyway, we’re home-free.  Spring starts March 21st and anything that happens that even closely resembles winter hell won’t hang around like that point.  Finish line!

Out on the streets shopping and strutting this weekend, I came across some … sights to share: Read the rest of this entry »

The 4:20 – Where Is Winter Disappearing To?
Feb 3rd, 2010 by Shaun Proulx

"Hihowareyou? How has your winter been?"

Happy Groundhog Day, everybody!  According to our furry sources, we’ve got another six weeks of winter ahead.  Hey, as an aside, does Groundhog Day EVER reveal any other forecast?  I don’t recall so, but I digress. Read the rest of this entry »

Law Of Attraction: Always On
Feb 2nd, 2010 by Shaun Proulx

I had an interesting chat with an associate of mine after a meeting yesterday morning.  As everyone in attendance dispersed, he pulled me aside and began to describe how difficult it would be to accomplish what we are going to accomplish.  This bad thing was going to happen … that obstacle would be in the way … these people were the road blocks … he was likely going to have to jump through hoops …

The Law of Attraction is always on.  You cannot turn it off. If you want to go about life saying “I have to work so hard for everything I get” – guess what?  You have to work so hard for everything you get!  In the case of my associate, I simply suggested to him to tell the story the way he wants it to be:  “What about: ‘It’s going to be really great when we figure this all out.’  Or, ‘I can’t wait to see what we come up with.’  Or, ‘It’s exciting to me to think of what we’ve got planned here.’”Same story, just told differently.

Every story we tell about any subject in our lives will garner different end results, and more importantly, garner different experiences in getting to those end results.  It’s amazing the stories we tell each other, and more so, that we tell ourselves, and it’s amazing how often we take the simplest things (’cause really, in my associate’s case, as far as I’m concerned, this is a done deal) and make big hairy deals out of them.  And it’s the sum total of all the big hairy deals we have going on needlessly in our heads all day every day that actually starts to create ruts in our lives.

Because the Law of Attraction is always on.

Bizzy morning underway – interviewing Adam Lambert in a couple of hours for the show on PROUD FM and OutTV – but there’s always time for our friends in Genoa City.  We’d especially like to focus on Lauren, who is clearly having a midlife fashion crisis of sorts, drawing on both Lady Gaga and Wilma Flintstone for wardrobe inspiration: Read the rest of this entry »

Deconstructing Genoa City

Let Me Put It Like This: I WOULD MAKE A BETTER MALCOLM!

Let’s start in the HIMBO! mailbag, where many have written to denounce the new Malcolm.  “Wanda” says: “I demand to know who’s in charge of casting for Y&R.   The new Malcolm looks (and acts) like a gorilla*. And don’t get me started on Daisy. *PS – Please don’t put use my real name in your blog or TV/radio show, due to possible racist interpretation.”

No problem, Wanda, and I couldn’t agree more, neither could the reader who wrote of “Nu Malcolm”: “Ugh. Make. It. End.”  Indeed.

Here’s what else is up and down in the ups and downs of Y&R of late: Read the rest of this entry »

BREAKING NEWS!

Sherri Shepherd’s stylist hates her!

P.S.  Two of my favourite GayGuideToronto.com bloggers – Maha and Andrew Vail – join us on the show today to face off on the topic of aging.  Andrew’s approaching the glorious 50 and Maha is 30-something in person, 19 on Facebook.  It’s all inspired by Andrew’s reaction to Pride Toronto’s recent announcement that this year during Toronto Pride that they will have a 40+ initiative, featuring  a dedicated website, plus activities where older participants can share their stories about what Pride (and life) was like back when. You can read his take here, listen to the show online here, and take part in today’s Shaun Proulx Show Poll Of The Day (on … surprise! AGING!) here.

Must dash, got a Botox appointment at 9:00.

Peace_and_Love

Final post of 2009 – I’m over and out for a couple of weeks.  A big thank you to everyone who drops by for a read, and to all our sponsors.

So about 2009.  For sure this year was a challenging one for a lot of people – I can’t think of anyone I know who wasn’t faced with something that seemed bigger than them to over come.

Me, too. In fact, I daresay one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever looked in the eye Read the rest of this entry »

A Single Man.

Tom Ford Makes The Most Of Every Shot.

I was eager to see Tom Ford’s writing and directorial debut. It is fun and fascinating to watch his career, and has been since he caught our attention back when he took over Gucci and brought sexy back to the doomed brand. Since then he’s had the Midas touch in the world of fashion, going on to launch his own label and stores.

So what then, is a film by this first-time fashionista like? Read the rest of this entry »

H*I*M*B*O! One Minute With … Susanna Fournier!
