Feel GOOD Friday!
Jul 30th, 2010 by Shaun Proulx

I Am Here.

:) In Vancouver to continue shooting the ‘Summer Of Pride’ series for OUTtv (Happy Pride, Vancouver!), as well as interviews for the show, including a chat with Bif Naked.  I love her energy – any woman who tweets that she is grateful for her ears so she can hear her beloved dog snore is A+ by me.

:) Speaking of dogs and gratitude, I love that I have friends I know and trust who will watch over my home and beasts while Eddie and I are away :)

:) This has been a Blast From The Past Week: Tuesday I saw the Soulpepper production of David French’s comedy Jitters with my bff Amanda; we met 20+ years ago when I co-starred in it with her father.  Tomorrow I’m day-tripping to Victoria to rendezvous with Andrea, an old high school friend.  I haven’t seen her in 21 years – I sat behind her in math class and used to pass her crude notes when I was bored out of my skull. Memory Lane!

:) Law of Attraction: Yesterday I chatted with my pal Brandon, who blogs (‘Step:2‘) over on HIMBO’s sister site, GayGuideToronto.com.  He’s working on a post that looks at the difference between ‘attraction’ and ‘effort’ and we discussed our ideas on this.  Brandon noted a lot of people say to him that the Law of Attraction requires a lot of effort, but to me, it’s the opposite, it’s about eliminating ‘effort’.  The concept of ‘effort’ for most people has built into it ‘pushing against’, ‘trying’, ‘resisting’, ‘have to’, and ‘work’, when really, the key to attracting what you want is to loosen all that up.  All day every day we put out requests for what we want, whether we verbalize, write it down, or simply put it out there with little thought attached.  IE: If someone is rude to you, you want people to be nicer.  If you open your wallet and you have no cash, you want more money.  If you see a hot pair of boots in a shop window, you might  (as I do) say aloud to no one in particular: “Must. Have. Those.”  Since you’re asking asking asking constantly, the trick becomes NOT then worrying about the ‘how’, NOT controlling what everyone is doing around you that may or may not prevent you from getting to what you desire, NOT putting in long hours working thinking it’s the only way to achieve what you want.  Instead it’s about focusing on what’s pleasurable around you, thinking thoughts that feel good, putting in time at the beach, taking the dogs for a hike rush-free.  This puts you in the positive alignment that you’d be in if you had the things you wanted, so the things you want can then come.  Trust me, it’s taken me a trip to get this.  I’ll be interested to see what Brandon has to say!

:) This week here on HIMBO! saw the most unique visitors I’ve ever had – a very healthy number that even surpasses (by 50%) what we normally see daily on GayGuideToronto.com, which has been online for 8.5 years compared to just 1.5 for HIMBO! Translation: THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING MY WORK!

Have a great weekend (long weekend to Ontario readers!), Happy Caribana, peace and love!

And You Thought You Had Landscaping Issues. This House In East Toronto Is Fairly Famous - I'm Sure You Can See Why. PS - It Changes With The Seasons. AND For All Major Holidays.

Hey there, high there, ho there!  Happy end-o-week!  What a summer Toronto is getting – hot, hot hot!  Here’s what else I love looking back on the week gone by:

Thanks to Nelson Branco (TV Guide) for the HIMBO! shout-out this week regarding my regular Y&R analysis!  “Media mogul”? I’ll take it!  I ran into Nelson on the street yesterday; “we had grief sex,” he later Tweeted. (True, right there on the sidewalk).  Follow this funny sexy bitch on Twitter!

The Book Of Negroes.  Everyone’s reading it, and unlike that other book everyone’s reading, the piece of crap known as The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo loving it, and with good reason.  Beautifully written, and harrowing from the get-go.

Hiking with my bitch, Ella.  She’s up for anything and has the stamina to keep up with me.  Nothing more joyous that watching her off-leash with a dazed, crooked doggy smile, bouncing through bushes, sniffing everything, and, last Sunday, slipping into a stream.  Dog days of summer, indeed.

Day 5 of my 14-day cleanse!  It always sounds like a great idea at the start but UGH giving up hard drugs sugar, flour, salt, meats, carbs, caffeine, booze, Maryjane and so on is BLECH.  The end-result is worth it, though.  I. Can. Do. It.

Mah iPad!

Law of Attraction: Release the shortage consciousness.  There isn’t just one pie and not enough for everyone – we live in an inclusion-based universe (whose mantra is “More, more, more” which is why you get more of what you focus on, whether you want it or not).  I had convos this week with friends who have a hard time letting go of stuff (material stuff), even though they’ve outgrown it / hate it / have no room for it / don’t use it.  The hanging onto is the lack / shortage belief that something better won’t come along, a replacement isn’t possible, and it’s quite the opposite.  The more you toss / donate / gift, the more actually comes back in myriad ways.  You come across the insane sale that allows you to buy a replacement, you rendezvous with the person who has what you want and is willing to give it to you, you get the job or the bonus that affords a new purchase, or you find you don’t even miss what you got rid of and what you did want can find you as you’ve made room.  Hold your breath and try it.

That I’m ending the day today chatting with a U.S. talent agency re: speaking gigs :)

And The Last Word goes to: Mother Nature!

Beach Office: View 1

Loving this high-summer Friday feeling!  Here’s what else, going into the weekend!

The Wire. After hearing all about it, reading all about it, this HBO show out on DVD is so brilliantly written and performed that I’m in triple love.  Puts all top-rated, formulaic network TV to shame – but the real shame is that it’s only five seasons long, and I’m already mid-way through Season 2.

I’ve been putting my pillow outside all day for that amazing fresh-air smell by my face at night – why not?

Feel GOOD Friday!

Wow!

Wow, what a week! Earthquakes, tornadoes, the G20 shutting down all of Toronto (And those herds of cops, hundreds, everywhere! Can I get an “Oh brother!”?) PLUS a satisfying end to a very politically trying time for Toronto’s queer community. Here’s what I am loving as we head into the weekend!

Now that the Toronto Pride drama is over, I’m feeling the Pride groove! I’ve been asked to speak at tonight’s 30th Anniversary Pride Launch Party :) My pleasure!

Laughing hysterically and often with my fiance Patrick. If a man doesn’t make you laugh, he ain’t the man for you, methinks.

The scent of the city. Right now Toronto smells heavenly and I appreciate the dog walks and errand walks that take me places divinely perfumed by nature.

Law of Attraction and the analogy of the Vortex.  The Vortex is the feeling place of well-being you strive to move to, gradually sometimes, using focused thought. It’s closing the gap between you and You. Once you are there you are living the fullness of who you really are, you have caught up with yourself, and it’s in this state that you attract to you all the people and events, and desires that fulfill you.  When shit goes down in life, my response is always: “Nothing is worth leaving the Vortex for” – which alludes to staying selfishly aligned with yourself so you can deal with the shit from the wholeness of who you are, not from a place of anger or frustration or resentment, all of which represent a dis-empowered version you you.  From those lower places it’s rare to find the right words, the right ideas, the right inspirations to deal with shit. (There’s much more to this than what I’ve written here, but the main idea of my week has been remembering to stay in alignment with Me.)

Plums.

Now that we’re growing The Shaun Proulx Show further over on OUTtv, I’m working with both the Toronto and Vancouver teams much more than I ever have and I have to say you could not wish for a more helpful, considerate, supportive, and likable group of people.  Thanks you guys! Tonight at 7:30 EST it’s our salute to theater brilliance with Canadian legends Eric Peterson and Louise Pitre guesting, along with Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal – Broadway’s original leads from the phenomenon known as RENT.  Show ratings continue to climb – thank you so much for your support!

Bon weekend!
