Feel GOOD Friday!
Mar 12th, 2010 by Shaun Proulx

Five Fierce Bitches. Wigmore, me, and the gorgeous hell-raisers known as Hunter Valentine. They came by this week to celebrate Canadian Music Week, and their upcoming album, Lessons From The Late Night. (Photo: Nathan Webster)

And here we go into another weekend. Here’s what I’m loving!

I. Am. Loving. This. Spring. Thing.

Getting to speak at York University this Monday on  The Importance of Queer Visibility.

The way a good mani-pedi can make a gal feel :)

The amazing people I continue to meet and chat with thanks to this big bad thing we call Social Media.

South Florida and Las Vegas on the horizon!

Gemini, anyone? ;)

Just announced for Toronto Pride 2010: Cyndi Lauper headlines a free concert in Queen’s Park Pride Saturday.  30,000 lovers of life packed into the tree-filled park surrounded by our majestic parliament buildings will be truly True Colours.  Beautiful.

Law Of Attraction. Throughout this week there has been some good shit going on, for me and those around me.  I noticed that my Assistant Richard has a habit of saying, “I can’t believe it!”, which is often an enthusiastic sentiment I have when things go right.  You know what?  With Law of Attraction, all things go right.  So stop “I can’t believe it” and BELIEVE IT.  Get it?

Kelly Cutrone joins us on the show Monday!

Bon weekend!

The 4:20 – Where Is Winter Disappearing To?
Feb 3rd, 2010 by Shaun Proulx

"Hihowareyou? How has your winter been?"

Happy Groundhog Day, everybody!  According to our furry sources, we’ve got another six weeks of winter ahead.  Hey, as an aside, does Groundhog Day EVER reveal any other forecast?  I don’t recall so, but I digress. Read the rest of this entry »

If you’re not an OutTV subscriber, you’re not just missing my show ;) but you missed a cute Happy Holidays promo that ran last month, featuring a couple characters you might recognize.  The editors put together this cute outtakes video with an HQF (high cute factor), so I thought I’d post for those suffering post-holidays blahs :)

From Inisde The Allan Gardens Conservatory Yesterday Afternoon.

I don’t know what this time of like is like where you live, but these days on the show, Wigmore teases me about my new found appreciation of this thing we’re in here in Toronto called Canadian winter.  Read the rest of this entry »

WTF?

Happy Sunday!

Friday night Mark Wigmore send me the above pic, asking if I could guess what it was.

“What am I, Antiques Roadshow?” was my answer.

What’s yours?

(The real answer is quite funny!)

With Wigmore + Lisa Nichols. The Energy In The Room Was Especially Amazing.

Here we are and not a moment too soon!  Here’s what I’m lovin’ as we head into the weekend!

- Fifteen years of fab magazine!  Congrats to my local scene magazine that everyone picks up whether they’ll admit it or not.  (Even you out-of-towners.) Can’t wait for the celebration bash at fly nightclub tonight.

- But before that: Lisa Nichols.  Man, oh man.  Read the rest of this entry »

Happy Friday! Here’s what I’m loving as we head into a long (deeeep breath) weekend here in Canada:

- The insanity that was interviewing Carol Channing for the show yesterday. A lot of the funny craziness was while we were off-air with her, but the good news is the OutTV cameras were rolling the whole while, so watch for a visual take on this hot mess of a chat coming to a Thursday night soon!

- Leslie Jordan the day before.  Like the big gay sister I never had.  Giggly, vivacious, Southern, naughty … I couldn’t stop laughing. Read the rest of this entry »

Friday, Child!

DavidGuetta2

David Guetta Is A 'Sexy Bitch'.

I wasn’t sure whether to discuss this, but given that Buck Angel tweeted about it earlier this week, why not. Buck and I are starting an incredible new project together; we’re meeting in L.A. in a few weeks to roll our sleeves up and get into the dirty work.

Today I CAN tell you about – it’s a motley crue to be sure: Vivica A Fox, Keith Cole, David Guetta, and Christine Fix from Soaps.com. Jim Stone, co-chair of Sunday’s AIDS Walk For Life also joins us for a last minute push to get walkers and sponsors out to support the cause. I know that it’s the queer community these days that seems to be holding back from participating and we’ll discuss the whys of that too. Listen for Mark Wigmore reporting in live from TIFF too!

There’s barely been a ‘mo this week to check on how our celeb friends are doing, so let’s take care of that now, shall we?

Jennifer Aniston has taken to singing in her next random act of terror film. “Is it starting to make sense to you all now?” asked Brad Pitt

Manolo Blahnik says he’s over having his luxury shoes mentioned in Sex & The City. “It’s not like the bitches who’ll go see the movie can afford them any way,” he scoffed …

Canada’s prima ballerina Karen Kain will be a judge on So You Think You Can Dance Canada. “First Ellen, now THIS?” wailed Paula Abdul, pills spilling from her mouth …

And The Last Word goes to … Whitney Houston! “I didn’t get out of my pyjamas for seven months.”

Jarvis Church At Church And Wellesley.
Aug 7th, 2009 by Shaun Proulx

Philosopher King’s frontman, Nelly Furtado / Esthero producer and solo artist Jarvis Church dropped by the studio on yesterday’s show.  A couple of years ago Church and I sat next to each other on a flight home from Miami and he fell asleep on my shoulder.  I shared this on-air with him and he looked fairly mortified as I led up to ‘how we’ve met before’, but in the end all was well.

Okay, at last I’m caught up loading the 24 little video blogs shot during six days trekking from Toronto to Montreal as part of The Friends For Life Bike Rally.  A sample of the fun is below, and the rest can all be viewed by clicking here.  Enjoy!

Packing Day! Hundreds gather to load their gear into bins and trucks but Wigmore, Intern Ronit and Shaun Proulx sneak their crap in to the PROUD FM vehicle. SO much better! Shhhhh!!!

Ride, Sally, Ride!
Jul 25th, 2009 by Shaun Proulx

The Friends For Life Bike Rally is officially on the way.  We don’t leave until Sunday but it’s all I am thinking about.  Just back in from packing our bins and beginning to tape a few segments that will air on the PROUD FM Morning Show and during my show, which will be ably manned by Big Dick Ryder and Patrick.

The aim while we are away is to 1) Make it to Montreal. 2) Do the show from the road at the same time, calling in to Richard and Patrick and preparing segments for them to share with you, and 3) Submit little moments in time, via video, to share our journey.  The first is below, shot Friday, our last day in-studio.

Lastly THANK YOU to each and everyone of you who sponsored me!

Peace and love,

Shaun

Friday before departure during our last show in-studio, Wigmore is quizzed on how he’s feeling as the clock ticks down to Sunday morning.

Patrick + I At An OUT TV Bash Last Night At Panorama. (You Can Check Out His New Blog @ The Re-Booted GayGuideToronto.com;)

A good raining mornin’ to you!

I love me a wet one!  So a little news: The Shaun Proulx Show is heading to OUT TV this year.  Think à la Howard Stern, only no one will be pulling carrots out of dwarfs assholes with their teeth to try and win a boob job.  (Except maybe Wigmore.) Cameras have been set up in studio, we’ll be doing some stuff outside the confines of the show, too, and it all starts shooting after the long weekend, to start airing before year-end.

When I left finance I took a massive piece of heavy paper and wrote and doodled over the whole damn thing everything I dreamed of seeing for myself as I embarked on a new career from ground zero and with no idea how I’d get from there to here.  So to share with you today this latest development means an awful lot when I remember back sitting in my home office in Leslieville (the home I’d soon sell to allow me to pursue this) wondering WTF.  Stay tuned for more details!

Speaking of the show, today we’re chatting with the GM of MySpace Canada.  I wonder if I can get him to even say the words ‘Twitter’ and ‘Facebook’!

Meanwhile, a Farrah Fawcett video diary shows her shaving her own head.  ”I just want one last comeback!” she declared, reaching for her umbrella and heading for the nearest parking lot …

Police responded to a tripped alarm at Lindsay Lohan’s house Tuesday afternoon, and found the home ransacked, with pry marks in the back door and a window that appeared to be tampered with.  ”It’s okay!” Lohan assured them.  ”I lost my keys and am a bit of a slob is all!”

In the beauty pageant world, no insiders can understand how it is Donald Trump has allowed Carrie Prejean to keep her crown after the nude photos have surfaced.  ”It’s not that hard to figure out!” Prejean mumbled, sucking Trump’s dick like a straw …

And The Last Word goes to … Mitch Winehouse! “For my daughter it’s alcohol instead of hard drugs now.”

Never Mind!

Hiding From The Thunder On A 2008 Training Ride.

Well it looks like Y&R’s Jess Walton is feeling better.  She’s not leaving the show after all, long live Jill!

One of the rumours floating around had been that Walton refused to take a pay cut – maybe that’s why Nia “Karen” Peebles has been axed as of y-day.  If this means more screen time for Tyra, pass the barf bucket.

And now a word on The Friends For Life Bike Rally.  My mind is racing with excitement at the thought of riding for a third time this July.  As announced last week, we’re also taking the show on the road again for what will be the 11th annual ride from Toronto to Montreal to raise money for the Toronto People With AIDS Foundation.

I wonder if my ass will chew up my seat once more this summer.  And I think about the guy did it in honour of his late partner and I wonder if he will show up again, a photo of them together taped to his bike handles.

This time Wigmore has decided he doesn’t want to serve 500 people gruel every morning and so is biking instead of doing food crew. I hope he doesn’t expect to ride with me.  I hope he pitches my tent for me every night like last year.  I hope he gets over his stage fright and comes and plays with the gays in the lake this time instead of dog paddling a large swath around us.

I’m not looking forward to the bike training that lies ahead all over again.  And I’m jealous of friends like Harvey who have already raised $7000.  Damn overachievers.  And I hope that corporate sponsors logos are worked in more appropriately this time, too, this is a very personal event for people. In a perfect world, the only logo we would see is that big red DQ at the end of the second last day, when the rally is all downhill from there, starting with a huge sundae to celebrate almost being done.

Yep, a 600 km trek is getting underway again here in the city, and I’m proud to be part of it for a third time and feel lucky to have this show to leverage off of to make more people aware of this disease and what an incredible thing it is when a few hundred people commit to kicking its ass every summer.

It’s a wonderful statement about not taking HIV AIDS lying down, of not taking your own life lying down, and when there’s a drag queen cheering you on by doing lewd acts while backing up traffic, it’s a wonderful experience that keeps me coming back.

You’re going to hear lots about the Rally between now and the end of July.  Please consider sponsoring me, or someone else who asks you.  Just not that guy with $7000 already in the can.  Damn overachiever.

Mother’s Love.

Wigmore, Drag Idol Host Miss Conception, And I.

Wigmore, Drag Idol Host Miss Conception, And I.

Drag Idol season is coming to a close again here in Toronto, and last week with Wigmore, Patrick Marano, and Sabrina from PROUD FM promotions in tow, I saw the second-to-last round of local drag queens and kings competing for a title that has proven to be a real career move for winners here in the city over the last seven years it’s been around.

There’s nothing like witnessing how far people will go to up the ante in competing to win Drag Idol.  I’ve seen sheer genius on that joint’s postage stamp stage over the years.  One of my favourite parts is when I lose all concept that these are MEN up there, lost in the illusion until I remember with a smile: THAT’S A FRIGGEN GUY strutting this stuff out.  Unless of course it’s the odd drag KING doing girl-as-boy.

But nothing is sweeter for me where Drag Idol is concerned than a lovely little phenomenon that happens each year, almost like a side dish.  Inevitably some lucky performer’s real family members come out and cheer their kid on.  Especially touching is the PARENTS who come out to support.  You know how we’ve all cheered real loud at past Pride parades when PFLAG (Parents For Lesbians and Gays) appears along the route?  It just hits your heart like that, easy.

Matt Cassano, who is a name locals might recognise from fab magazine – and he’s worked at PROUD FM before, too - competes in the form of his twisted alter ego, Heroine Marks, and he’ll probably take the title.  But what is even better is Mrs. Cassano, who I have seen out for two years now when Matt’s tried for the competition.

That woman’s camera never stops taking pictures or recording video, she makes sure the path is clear in the crowded restaurant for Matt to make whatever grand entrance he’s making, she screams the loudest, she brings her friends.  It makes me almost tear up just telling you about it, and it’s what every parent will one day be like for their queer children in an ideal world: displaying the basest of animal instincts, protecting their young no matter what.

Which makes Matt and anyone like him out there already winners.

Meanwhile, Robin Williams is expected to make a full recovery after a three hour operation to replace a heart valve.  In related news, absolutely no one has yet fully recovered from Death To Smoochy, Jack, or Shakes The Clown

Nadya Suleman, the Southern California woman who gave birth to octuplets in January, has fired a nonprofit group of nurses charged with helping care for her children.  ”I miss the headlines!” she giggled …

Anne Hathaway will play Judy Garland on both stage and screen.  ”One more reason to keep popping pills even here in the beyond!” wept Garland …

Pundits are asking if Julia Roberts‘ career can bounce back following the dismal weekend of her latest movie.  ”Maybe if I do that big huge horse laugh of mine twice next time?” suggested Roberts …

Ashton Kutcher posted a pic of Demi Moore’s ass on Twitter on the weekend.  ”You can all finally understand why the divorce!” explained Bruce Willis to attendees of his second wedding that very same day …

And The Last Word goes to … Cindy  Crawford!  ”In LA, there are 65-year-old women walking around in Juicy sweatpants, and from the back, you’d think they were 20. But when you see their hands or their neck, you know.”
