I'd Drink That!
So you can imagine my surprise when I reached into our bar the other day, pulled out a bottle of Malibu (right?) and saw mah face in caricature drawn on the side. Well, HELLO! *
And next to me on that booze bottle is none other than my radio partner-in-crime, Kitten Mark Wigmore:
Kitty-Kitty!
His hair could have been a lot wilder, but anyway, I don’t recall ever receiving this Malibu-as-art, and while you’d think I’d have noticed, probably I was just overwhelmed the way I do tend to be when free booze flows. Here’s what else I’m loving as we travel along another fine Friday!
My ability to bounce back fast.
Law of Attraction 101 coming your way October 16 here in Toronto. What I’ve learned that’s changed my life, practical processes that have helped me, and Q&A time. More details to come!
* Whatever comes out of Deven Green’s mouth. “I read porn to the blind“? Seriously? HA!
And I know I told you this last week, but I don’t think you heard me: KELIS’ Fleshtone is joyful strut-down-the-runway-while-no- one-is-looking disco. I’m horse-walking to it as you read this! Pour some in your ears!
Law of Attraction: If you desire something it won’t make it to you if you have resistance on that subject. You create your own walls with your own thinking, ie: making big fat deals over the very subject you want an improved version of. One way of releasing resistance is … surprise … to be able to laugh about it. Jack, our 10-year-old long-haired Dachshund, in his on-going quest to dominate our entire family, has taken to pulling-pulling-pulling from behind when we’re out walking him. It started when we got Ella two years ago. He’s decided he’ll show US who’s in charge when we’re walking by pulling back – literally digging his heels in even so you have to DRAG him, thereby controlling the walk. It’s really fun. Seriously, it’s infuriating to both Eddie and I to the point where we don’t even enjoy taking him out and I fantasize about throwing him like a football into traffic when he does it.
Until, that is, Eddie recently announced while we were out on a walk with the dogs and IT was happening AGAIN: “This is like dragging a dead baby around.”
Well. Slap my ass and call me Sally, the image this conjured as we walked the downtown core hand-in-hand (dragging a dead baby?) nearly had me fall over laughing. Now that’s our go-to when Jack pulls back, and it has totally melted the resistance (anger, impatience, frustration) I had over this. The only catch? Now Jack barely pulls. Which is kind of a drag, because those were healthy belly-laughs I was having on crowded streets; I’ll miss them.
When you know what you don’t want, you know what you do want. Sometimes having a good laugh about the fucker that caused you to know what you want is all it takes to get it.

My Favourite Pic From Pride 2010 (Photo: Michael Ain)
… slowly, with trepidation, she emerged from the depths of her Pride recovery, the daylight singeing her eyes …
Wow. Not just Pride recovery, I’ve decided, but Spring 2010 recovery – what an intense ride these past several weeks have been. It was so nice to take last week off, chill, and avoid the heat wave with a/c in front of the TV.
One can actually graph the return of my right mind by examining the order of my DVD rental choices. Shall we?
1) The Hills Seasons 1 and 2 (at last, context for the hot glue gun mess that is Heidi Montag) 2) The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 1 (aspiration for The Hills gang, I’m shure)
3) Nip/Tuck Season 1 (not sure if I’ll stick with it; too stomach churning) 4) Damages Season 1 (friggen amazing)
5) The Wire Season 2 (and once I could follow this without issue, I knew I was back, and that all would be alright)
Delishsuh!
… and of course, The Young & The Restless, suitable for any state of mind. Holy-dump-your-husband, at long last Phyllis has given Tree the heave-ho. The last five minutes of today’s U.S. episode where Phyllis reads Nick is some of Michelle Stafford’s best work of late – lots of great pacing and emotional levels while Tree Nick just stands there wishing she’d use smaller words like Sharon does. The highlight of my Pride come down.
Speaking of Pride, yesterday I was alerted I made the National Post twice this month – but can you spot their funny boo-boo in my second appearance?
Music alert! Kylie’s new album Aphrodite is a tasty must-have. Not a bad track on the dance-heavy release, with ‘Put Your Hands Up (If You Feel Love)’ easily my favourite, and I really really love the first single, ‘All The Lovers’, so that’s saying something. Take it from a gay man: Buy. Now.
And while you’re on iTunes, do grab Toronto icon Ivana Santilli’s latest, Santilli – it’s more awesome sweet grooves from one big talent. I just love this down-to-earth sexpot and her sultry voice so much and we had a few laughs Friday afternoon while she helped with with a project:

And then there was Chi Chi LaRue. The infamous L.A. porn mogul, who discovered Eddie go-go dancing there years ago and has remained friends with him ever since making him an international porn star, came to Toronto Friday for the weekend. The multi-faceted drag queen had a DJ gig at The Barn Saturday night, and the rest of the weekend we spent with Chi Chi (as a boy), touring the city, eating out, and stopping him from buying an $1800 necklace at Holts on a whim. He’s a wonderful and fascinating man and I thoroughly enjoyed spending time together. Saturday before the DJ gig I brought my crew to her hotel to shoot an interview for the show, where we talked bareback porn, the real reason she’s lost over 100 pounds, and what it takes to maintain the Chi Chi LaRue brand for as long as she has. Watch for it on an upcoming episode, soon!

Forever Golden
This Feel Good Friday is all about the lovely Rue McClanahan, who went on to her next joyful journey yesterday. I had the pleasure of speaking with her twice, and she was Southern belle charming each time; she wouldn’t even hear of being labeled ‘gracious’ when I called her as much for agreeing to come on the show after Bea Arthur passed. For other moments from our chat, my radio partner in crime Mark Wigmore has an article on our time with her in PopEater.com. My personal favourite memory was when we asked her to record a liner for the show (the whole “This is Rue McClanahan on The Shaun Proulx Show …” bits you heard).
At the end she paused a moment and then said sultrily, “You lucky devils …”
Here is the audio from the last conversation we had with her:

Bye and thank you Rue, you made us all feel good – every day.
P.S. If you have not see McClanahan in her last acting role as the matriarch in the hilariously trashy Sordid Lives – The Series, do yourself a favour (it airs on OUTtv).
Thank you so much for the astounding continued outpouring of appreciation – calls, notes, (and that Facebook Page!). Today, Deb Pearce, Mark Wigmore, Patrick Marano and I released the following statement: Read the rest of this entry »

Happy Fridaaaaaaaay!
This is my first post all week, and you likely can imagine why: On Tuesday I was barred from the PROUD FM studio, alongside my co-host / producer Mark Wigmore, and on Wednesday we were all fired, alongside our colleagues Deb Pearce and (my boyfriend, her co-host) Patrick Marano (aka Eddie Stone). If there’s one thing people I meet tell me it’s that they love 103.9 PROUD FM – they just wish they could pick it up in more places. “When are you getting a better signal?”
Now, apparently. That is if you help. The Pride of Toronto, 103.9 PROUD FM, has submitted an application to the CRTC for a power increase. If approved, this change will help the station better serve YOU, the PROUD FM listener and the GLBT community in downtown Toronto. There are several ways you can help:
Fill out this form of support. Your comments will then be sent to the CRTC.
OR You can email PROUD FM directly at info@proudfm.com and tell them why the station are important to you.
OR you can stop by the PROUD FM offices at 65 Wellesley St E suite 201 during business hours and sign a petition.
If you don’t, don’t ever complain to me again. Loving you, meaning it
