In this day and age, there is a tremendous amount of pressure put on families. Fathers and mothers must befriend their children like members of a softball league; children, similarly, must take their parents’ respective neuroses in stride, all the while condoning the childishness of their guardians by saying, “Golly, adulthood is tough.” In Brad Fraser’s newest play True Love Lies, currently playing at the Factory Theatre, he presents a caricature of the perfect 2009 family; members who aren’t trying to dodge the foils of family hardship as much as they are trying to catch them and place them on the mantle for all to see, all the while smiling, smiling, smiling. So on Saturday night I got to meet Susanna Fournier, the woman who in my opinion has the best part in Brad Fraser’s new play True Love Lies. Naturally I cornered her for One Minute. Amazingly, I don’t sound nearly as wasted as I was when we shot this.

Time for some run-don’t-walk theatre here in Toronto: The North American premiere of Brad Fraser’s True Love Lies kicked off Factory Theatre’s 40th anniversary season this past Thursday.
The world premiere already a U.K. hit, this is playwright/director Fraser’s best work yet, and I’ve either seen or read them all. More mature than anything before it, and shockingly funny on many levels.
